Madeleine,
How long ago did you hit that Delete key on the link? I've come across
stuff like this that went away, only to reappear on certain days of the
month (sort of like a virus). Others were gone for months and then suddenly
reappeared for no discernable reason at all. I guess we'll just leave it be
for now, but let me know if it ever does reappear. Don't delete it until
you receive a reply from me, though. ;O}
As for learning more about the registry, the only way to develop any
amount of 'comfort' is to research the subject until you feel ready to dive
in (or at least submerge a toe lol) and then, open up RegEdit and try
out some of the simpler tweaks you want to try. As you experience some of
these minor successes, you'll find yourself ready to try some of the more
adventurous ones. To get started, I suggest you visit & bookmark the
following site. It gives a rather thorough overview of the registry in all
it's glory. Be sure to memorize the "Maintaining the Registry" section
BEFORE making any modifications. This section will enable you to return the
registry to its pre-modified state if anything should go wrong with
something you try.

This next one (the parent page of the one above) will provide you with
all you need to learn to become a registry expert, if you're so inclined.
It includes links to tons of modifications, tips and tricks you can perform
by editing the registry. Some of them have become 'must-have' modifications
on my own systems. Happy surfing! :O)

and other stuff
Wow! You gave me a lot to mull over :) I never thought of BIOS but should
have. Now, as for the adult link...I believe someone sent a link to small
program call HiJack This. Oddly, it showed a few of those links in two
places. Once I hit the delete key, they have not reappeared since. BTW, this
url wasn't anywhere near as embarassing as some of them, LOL. Some I just
plain cringed to look at. Nasty.
Obviously, you are very comfortable with registry; something I'm not brave
enough to get into. However, how DOES one learn more about it (safely, that
is) before digging into their own computer?
On the floppy, I plan to visit with Cindy and look at it. Personally, no
matter how I try, I cannot imagine how he even accidentally disabled it. Too
weird. I remember having to go into setup before for other things, seeing
drives and setup in there, but never really messed with anything like
changing drives etc. Usually it had to do with a boo-boo after my battery
ran out on my older computer.
Thank you for the very thorough explanation and help :)
Madeleine
