Hi Dr. Benway, > 1) Are your adapters stereo (I assume they are) > sometimes if you wiggle them a bit it makes the > connection work (silly thing but sometimes that is it > especially if the tape is mono and only one channel is > being picked up). I really dont know if the adapter is stereo or not. But I did notice when I first tried recording brother's tape watching the "monitor" on my recorder it only showed green lights on the left side or right which I thought was odd as the other tape had not done that. So I unplugged it and plugged it back in and this time both left and right had green lights showing. I would not know if the tape is mono, just looks like an old casette tape to me like any others. But his "singing" is very soft and his "guitar" playing much louder which is how my brother always performed, a bit shy as a singer. Also > 2) are you using line in (which as a rule you should) > however the "mike in" is more "sensitive" and may > pickup the sound better in the case of your brother's > tape. The first time I tried doing all of this, I used line in but used the red and white plugs in back of the stereo (line out there), and in the "line in " in back of computer, it worked but not great as I could not control the volume much. So I bought the other plug with the adapter and used that in the headpohone hole of the stereo to the line of in computer. Do you mean "mike in" on the computer or stereo? > 3) I assume from your discussion that the tape may be > mono? is that the case? > > I was successful at recording a song that I sang years ago and is okay but quality still needs some improvement as it was done in a "club" setting with a "cheap" casette player. I am reading up on my new sound card trying to figure out what it can or cannot do. Seems to have several programs with it, some more to do with midi though which I want to explore later on. I converted the tape of me from wav to mp3. Im looking for ways to improve the sound though, I did a clean up thing but that did not do alot. christy cristy > ===== > "A box of rain will ease the pain and love will see you through."
