cristy, I'm glad you at least got your connection working.  I don't have a
lot of experience in improving/cleaning up poor audio recordings.  I do know
that one can do a lot with one of the audio editing applications such as
Goldwave, SoundForge, Steinberg Wavelab or even the one that came with your
sound card.

There is a free Audio Editor called Audacity here:

there is a lot of info on that site that may help you out, such as 'Online
Help' and 'Audacity Users List'
