God give me a tablet PC (LOL) -- I have a woofer and 4 speakers 
on my super duper Gateway and I never have sound turned on.

Not sure about this because all systems are different. Mine also 
has to be plugged into a surge protector so check to see whether 
it is on??  I had a scanner that didn't work because of the 
surge protector it was connected to would have spasms.

When my sound didn't work on old HP -- it was because a cable 
was not plugged in tight enough even though it looked like it. 
Had to take it off then put it back on.

I know you have probably already checked to see if the thingie 
in your task bar is up high enough for you to hear??
