No we are 7 digit still thank heavens.
Yes it rings my cell phone, of course I can't answer but at least it's ringing
the phone!

Sandy-
Looking over these posts, you've stated that the modem dials but the
number doesn't answer when you try the Earthlink numbers but that AOL
connects OK.
If AOL connects, that means the modem is working and the phone line is
working. What I would look into are the numbers for Earthlink and how
they are being dialed. That seems to be where your problem lies. So
check your dialing properties and make sure you're using the correct
type of dialing. Here in the Atlanta area, we have 10 digit dialing.
There are no longer any 7 digit phone numbers. Since we always have to
dial the area code, we have to specify in the dialing properties that
certain area codes do not require a 1 to be dialed first. That may be
your problem. And to see if it works with other numbers, try dialing
your cell phone or the pizza place, just to see if it will connect.
Anyway, if the modem on the other end isn't even picking up, that
problem must be solved before anything else can happen.
