Ok here is my understanding of what you said.
You have Dial up which means you must dial up your ISP through the standard 
phone lines. This means 
that you do NOT have high speed DSL right now. Is this correct?

The modem is in your mothers machine.

You did not say what your OS is.

There are a couple of ways to accomplish what you want, but using the 
information you provided here 
is one of the ways to accomplish what you want to achieve.

You can use a wireless router connected to your mothers computer and through a 
wireless card on your 
computer, you can connect to the router. Your mothers computer must have a NIC 
card and it will 
connect to the router with Cat 5 (or better) cable. The catch is that your 
mothers machine must be 
on and connected to the internet for you to access the internet. the computers 
would have to be set 
up to do internet connection sharing. I assume by you specifying that a router 
is to be used, you 
will not be able to connect directly to your Mother's computer or that you do 
not want to connect 
directly to your Mother's computer.

Different manufactures have different requirements for how many computers can 
be connected to the 
router. So be sure to check what the manufacture of the router specifies. Also 
some manufactures are 
more user friendly about setting up the wireless router to function with your 
wireless computer card 
and also about setting up your computer for the wireless card. I do not have 
wireless and only dealt 
with wireless once, so I think others would be better able to advise you as to 
how difficult it may 
be to set wireless up and/or how difficult it would be to set up a wireless 
network using a 
particular brand router or card. I, however, recommend that you purchase the 
router and wireless 
card from the same manufacture.

On my network system I have at home, I have 3 computers (One XP PRO, one XP 
Home, one dual boot 98 
and win 2k) plus an all in one network printer connected to a cable router 
using Cat 5 cable. The 
router has a built in modem (there are only a couple of routers built this 
way), and it is connected 
to my DSL lines. Using a network printer, I did not have to worry about 
configuring the computers to 
share the printer (where the printer is actual connected to one computer). A 
disk that came with the 
printer that did all the set up when it was inserted into each computer. My 
router has 4 ports. If I 
want more than 4 devices hooked up to the router, I can use one of the ports as 
an up link port. An 
up link port is that which is used to connect this equipment (router) to 
another router or switch 
which then is connected to more devices.
