-=PCTechTalk=- Re: resolution for LCD

Hank,
I sure do appreciate the info, my friend. As for the correct resolution
for your screen, let's gather some other specs to try and narrow it down.

If I remember correctly (and please correct me if I'm mistaken), you
have more than one computer. The primary one is the hybrid Intel IMac that
is set up to dual boot between Windows XP and OS-X (Tiger, perhaps) while
the other machine runs a Linux distribution exclusively. I'll need to know
the size (in inches), type (CRT or LCD) and make/model of the monitors used
for each machine. You've already stated that the Intel/Imac has an LCD, but
I still need to know the make/model so I can look up its specs. I also need
to know if the computers have a dedicated video card or are using integrated
graphics. If the graphics are integrated, I'll need either the
make/model/version of the graphics chip on your mainboard or the make/model
of the mainboard itself. Armed with this info, I should be able to research
the proper/best resolutions for you.

Keep in mind that, by their nature, all LCD monitors have only one
native resolution that allows the screen to show everything without
modification to the original video signal. Any other resolution will force
the video card to interpolate the image (adding or removing image data as
necessary to make the new size fit the screen). This usually results in a
less clear image and more of a strain on the graphics processor.

Peace,
GMan
