-=PCTechTalk=- Re: pswd required

Dolores,
No, that's not possible because TweakUI only performs the password
function during the bootup sequence. When the Windows initialization gets
to the part where it needs your password, TweakUI simply provides it before
Windows even has a chance to display the log in page (so you don't even see
that).

I honestly don't see any way that Panda could tie your password to the
Scheduled Tasks function. It just doesn't make any sense unless there's
some corruption involved. If that's the case, the corruption would most
likely lie within the Registry. And if that's true, then it might be
possible to repair it with a 'Defrag' of (also known as compressing) the
Registry. I placed the word Defrag in quotes because it's not the same as
what's normally thought of as a hard drive defrag. The Windows Registry is
actually a combination of a few hidden files that are combined whenever you
fire up Regedit.exe (or any other registry editor). As these entries are
modified, the data stored in each file experiences fragmentation very
similar to what happens with hard drive files. Also, since Registry entries
are added, deleted and modified all the time, those individual files are
also prone to develop lots of 'holes' where there's more blank space than
registry data. Defragging the Registry has the effect of not only fixing
the above problems, it also rewrites the entire Registry so any corrupted
entries are replaced.

There are several commercial, shareware and free programs that can do
this for you, but they also include modules that seek out unused & unlinked
entries for removal (many of them do this automatically). Personally, I've
never been able to warm up to the idea that a program (which is just as
susceptible to human coding error as any other program) is going to remove
stuff from the most important data storage area of my system, so I prefer to
avoid those. Instead, I'll show you how to fix all of the above problems
yourself below.

With no windows or programs open, go to Start > Run and type in
'Regedit' (without quotes). Press the Enter key to start the registry
editor. Once it opens, go to File > Export and a window will open already
set to store a file inside your My Documents folder. Type in today's date
as the file name (2007-08-31, for example) and make sure the Export range
area at the bottom of the screen is set to 'All'. Click on the Save button
and a complete copy of all of the data in the registry (from all of the
registry files) will be written into a single file (called "2007-08-31.reg"
if my example above was used). Next, go to File > Import and then locate &
select the 2007-08-31.reg file you just made. Click on the Import button
and the entire contents of the registry will be replaced with a compressed
(no holes), defragged (all data will be in sequential order through all of
the reg files) and uncorrupted (all data is rewritten, overwriting any funky
bits) version of the same thing. ¿Simple, no?

If nothing else, your system should run a bit better afterwards because
the OS won't be thrashing all over the individual registry files looking for
the data it needs for nearly every task it performs. As an added bonus,
you'll have your entire registry backed up in your My Documents folder. It
will most likely never be needed, but it'll still be there, just in case.
Feel free to store the exported .reg file elsewhere if your file/folder
organization calls for it. :O)

Above all else, hopefully this will also fix the password issue.

Peace,
GMan
