type " hi, what-ya doing" and it usually tics off the person who receives 
this kind of message. I usually tell them "I am standing on my head, drinking 
an RC cola, eating a Hershy bar and reciting the Gettysburg Address backward

Instant messages are a good thing when you need "instant reply to a question" 
otherwise e-mails are less intrusive, to this old lady anyway, but it's great 
to hear from old friends too..granny
