There are several possible causes. Check for a mute switch. Make sure the microphone is turned on. Make sure the input level is set correctly. Make sure the volume control is set properly. Make sure the correct input source is selected. Make sure everything is plugged in where it is supposed to be plugged in.... including the plug to to the electrical socket. And there are probably many more. And we haven't even considered a malfunction in the system. If you lack the technical expertise to do this yourself, ask the person that trained you to help.
