-=PCTechTalk=- Re: odd problem

Dear Hi [since no other name was given]:

F8 is for Safe Mode.

If you can get in there, have your neighbor run their AntiVirus program.
If they don't have one, I have no pity for them. They asked for it.
Especially since free ones are available.

There is one more thing. If it doesn't load, it could be a bad hard drive.
Had that happen about a year ago at one of my client's offices'. It would
start just like your neighbor's and then nothing. Would not boot in Safe
Mode either. No matter how I tried to boot up, I would just get an error
message each time I selected and hit "Enter" from starting with F8.
Just have a tech check it out.

Also, see if you can get to Bios [try F2 (set up) and F12 (boot up)]. I
would get error messages if I tried to make changes. But again, I would
have a tech check it out before replacing it.

Gateways are notorious for having hard drives go bad and if your neighbor
owns one, I would bet that's the problem... Quite a number of Gateway
owners I know have had theirs replaced. The problem I had was with a Dell
OptiPlex, so even the best ones can have one go bad on them.

Haven't tried that. It goes to black screen and turns off.
Should I try to make it go into safe mode? F8 right?
And if I get it into safe mode, what do I do after that?
