Nanne,

First off welcome to the list.
To answer one of your questions. This list does it all
or tries to. We are just a group of people that are
sharing are computer experiences, tips, and tricks.

Since you an artist.
The processor is right.
Double the memory. To 512MB.
HardDrive 80 to 100GB. You may ask why, isn't that to
much? Well as the saying goes junk accumulates and you
don't want to throw anything away.
Besides Picture, Video and Music manipulation requires
a lot of harddrive space, memory, and processor speed.

Nineteen Inch Monitor.
Video Card would vary depends on your situation.
Sound Card probably the latest and greatest Sound
Blaster, Creative has to offer.
Unless you are into Musical Editing...Then please ask
around.

That is all I can think of.
As for putting it together your self, That is the only
for me.
One. I know what parts are going into the computer.
Two. If it breaks I don't have to send the whole thing

back in due to warranty and wait. I can figure
out the bad part and exchange it.
Three. Personal Satisfaction of putting it together
and
       having it work.

Four. Tayloring the software and OS to my likes and
      needs.

Glen
