-=PCTechTalk=- Re: microsoft anti spyware

Don't worry, you don't come off as a jerk. I can understand your concern,
and I can only answer as much as I know.

Regarding my previous posts, you're right, I probably didn't answer the
question the way Cris, or even you, might have wanted it answered. But, just
as other questions from other members go, if you can't answer a question
completely it doesn't mean you don't post a reply. Very often you post what
you DO know, and hopefully someone else can add to it or maybe even answer
the question fully the way it was intended.

With that said... let's forget about my previous posts. Let's start from the
beginning again.

Like I had said, I wasn't overly familiar with the options since I only
tackled it initially when I installed it a few months ago. I just now went
ahead and downloaded MS AntiSpyware so that I can install it here at work
(since I have it installed at home but not here at work). Now that I've got
it installed I can more thoroughly look at it and try to better answer the
question.

The blocked items list seems to be what you have already blocked. So, no,
you cannot add to it, but rather if you block something it'll then show up
here for you to see what's being blocked and, I assume, the option of
removing it from the list should you decide you no longer want to block the
item.

More importantly, the settings you want to check are under the REAL-TIME
PROTECTION link. Upon clicking the link, you have 3 modules. And, clicking
each module will show you what they call CHECKPOINTS. Here is where the
real-time scanner watches over your system. I don't have to tell you this,
but obviously you should have these all on and active. For whatever the
reason (whether it may be a resource hog, or whatever) some people may
choose to turn off some checkpoints. And, well, that's easily done here on
these settings.

When you first install the app, if you keep just clicking NEXT NEXT NEXT on
the install screens, these checkpoints should already be all turned on. At
face value, there should be no reason to change it. But, if you want to, or
have a reason to, then yes you can do it here.

Hope this helps answer a few of the questions. And, if you have more I'll do
my best to answer it.

I understand that. But her lead off question and my followup questions are
still unanswered.

Chris:

I found a "manage blocked/allow" link but it would not let me do anything
because I had not yet blocked or allowed anything.

How does one add items to the block/allow list?

I searched the helpfile for "default" and "settings" and "change" and
similar key words and combinations thereof, but got absolutely nothing that
comes close to answering the questions at hand.

If these default settings can not be changed, and I am beginning to suspect
that is the case, that means we are at the mercy of Micro$oft to decide what

should be deleted or ignored or quarantined. And right now they are
defaulting to ignore adware... a decision that I do not like.

I'm sorry if I come across as a jerk... it is not my intent. And I may be
blind or just plain stupid, but all I want is a reply from somebody/anybody
that says something like this:

"Default settings can be changed at this menu:
"Tools/Options/settings/default/change".

Thank you for your magnificent show of patience.

Don
