Hi Christine:
I've read a few of the replies to your query. I suspect that you intend to
add this yourself. If so, the easiest AND the safest way to add to your
memory is to open your computer, remove the memory stick in there. Take it
to the computer center you intend to buy your added memory from and ask for
a tech to help you. You must match your memory stick to the new one and
buying without bringing the one from your computer isn't worth the problems
you may incur by just buying one.
CompUSA will even insert it for you for free if you bring your computer to
them and buy the memory stick there. No, I have no affiliation with them.
It's there policy to install anything bought there including all hardware as
well as software, if you're inclined to let others install them for you.
Another advantage in letting them do it, is should you have a problem with
whatever they've installed some time later, [not sure how long they
guarantee the installations], you can go back to them for help. Even after
the guarantee period, their rates, I think, are reasonable.
By the way, when you remove the memory stick, be careful not to touch the
contacts along the bottom as oil from your hands could cause problems as
well. Just sway it slowly from side to side, lift up and if you have a
small plastic bag, put it in that to take with you. Even though I'm sure of
what I've needed in the past to upgrade memory, I still bring the old stick
with me, just to double check when I'm there.

thanks TD,
I'm thinking since my computer is about four years old that it may be DDR
not DDR2.
