Try the other method I posted in another message. Remove the keyboard and start 
up. It should tell you KEYBOARD ERROR, and allow you to press a specific key to 
enter setup. Let me know if that works.

| I have an HP Pavilion 452.uk with an Hewlett-Packard HP System Board HP P/N 
with Phoenix Technologies, LTD VC37304 07/30/2002 BIOS.   This isn't the Mobo 
it's listed as having at the HP website for this model which is really 
frustrating as far as the course is concerned but that aside it would be useful 
if I could see the BIOS info even though I have no intention of touching the 
things at present.

|   Thank you Troth ~ you answered a question before I'd even had time to ask 
it and I've been meaning to ask ever since my "Build & Maintain" course last 
Saturday.  We discussed the splash screen thingy last week as some of us have 
them but the tutor said there was no way around the problem so I was gonna ask 
here but hadn't worked out what to say ~ instead of my usual bumbling torrent. 
 Anyway I'm off to see if it works ~ I guess I should've done that first but I 
guess I'll let you know if it doesn't.

|     Ok... back to answer your question. BIOS is basically the the little 
program with the first set of instructions when you turn your computer on. 
Let's just say its what allows your processor and motherboard to integrate with 
everything else, and tells the computer what to do when you first turn it on.
|     Anyway... since all BIOSes are different, I can only give you a rough 
sketch. My system uses the AwardBIOS. To access your BIOS, when you restart 
your computer, in the first few seconds you need to hit the key that activates 
the BIOS (sometimes called the SETUP). In my case, its the DEL key. In yours, 
it could be the DEL key, as well as the F8, ESC, INSERT, etc. If you watch the 
bottom of the screen, it sometimes says what to press. Mine, for example, says 
HIT DEL KEY TO ENTER SETUP. Your might says something else... or might not say 
anything at all. Also, you might have a splash screen from whoever you bought 
your system from or from the motherboard company. If that's the case, you can 
usually press ESC and it immediately removes the splash screen so you can see 
what's going on.

|     SIDE NOTE: Using you BIOS, you can disable any splash screens that are 
active.

|     Once you're in the BIOS, you just need to look for the option. Most of 
the time, you will only be able to use the keyboard... no mouse. On my BIOS, I 
go to the POWER section. Then into the POWER UP CONTROL section. And, then 
there's a field called POWER ON BY PS/2 . Then, I can change the choices. I 
specifically chose SPACEBAR. There's another field called POWER ON BY PS/2 
MOUSE. Enabling this one will basically start the computer as soon as the mouse 
is moved. Typically, at home, usually not a good idea, since the mouse is so 
fairly easy to nudge. In an office, however, where everyone leaves the office, 
this may be more feasible.

|     Anyway... after making changes... look on the bottom (or the last tab on 
top) and you should see something regarding exiting. You want to SAVE CHANGES 
and EXIT.

|     Then, restart the computer and you're all done.
