-=PCTechTalk=- Re: just for interest

XP, 98, 95, etc. The operating system has absolutely nothing to do with getting
into the BIOS. Its all independent of the OS. If you read my last post, you'll
see what I wrote regarding entering the BIOS. If you missed, let me know. In
general, though, you need to hit a key at startup to enter the BIOS. Which key
to hit is where you need to play with. Sometimes it says it at boot up,
sometimes it does not. If you;re having a hard time figuring out the key, let
me know, and then all of us here can play with a few things and try to help you
figure out the key.
Another tip... you can usually get into the BIOS by disconnecting the keyboard
and booting. BIOS detects that there's no keyboard attached, and will halt,
telling you to press so-n-so key to enter SETUP. Of course, that won't apply to
you, since you're using a laptop.

Replicator... can't really answer replicator-specific questions, as I don't
know much about replicators. Sorry.

| How would you program your laptop to use the escape key or spacebar. If your
| hooked up to a replicator and not, 1/2 and 1/2, could you use the esc. key,
| and would it work hitting it on the keyboard (replicator hooked up) and on
| the laptop esc. key itself (unhooked)? Also, is it tricky to get into Bios
| in xp pro or the same as anything else? Thanks for the help.

| networked machine can technically turn your machine on. When your computer
| is off, its really NOT off. The exception is much older systems... so much
| older that most of us probably don't have that. Your on/off switch on your
| tower is a "soft" switch. Your hard switch is the power button that's
| located behind your power supply. THAT's the real power switch. As long as
| this "hard" switch is on, your computer is technically always on, drawing
| very little power (not sure on the exact voltage, but just enough to detect

| use your space bar as a "soft" switch to power the computer on (not off,
| just on). The keyboard gets power because its connected to the tower. And,

| also ESC, DEL, INSERT and maybe a few others.
