-=PCTechTalk=- Re: integrated audio and video

Probably depends on how old it is. Mostly the older machines have the
trickier setup because a lot of those you have to remove or add a hardware
jumper. Not a huge deal, but not for a novice or someone without the
proper information for the board. Most modern machines unless they are
*really* cheap and proprietary allow you to disable them in the BIOS.

A test to give you an idea is to look around in your BIOS settings and see
if there is a setting for the device in question with an enable/disable
option. If you find it it's a good sign, but don't change anything yet.
Exit without saving. Then download this:

http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php

This will tell you what motherboard, etc. you have. It will also provide
web links for info/drivers. Beware, some will be broken/old. When you
know the hardware info, Google it and you should get the technical info.

Weaver was rumoured to have uttered....

          | Thanks Wyatt,
          | This is a Dell I'm looking at. Do you know if they are one of
          | the more
          | troublesome kind?

          | As far as I know you can add a new card, but the onboard stuff
          | has to be
          | disabled first. This can be tricky. A lot of them can be
          | disabled in
          | BIOS, but some are more troublesome.

          | | When a motherboard has integrated audio or video,
          | | can you change it by
          | | adding a PCI card, or are you stuck with it?
