-=PCTechTalk=- Re: ide or sata hard drives?

Don,
Thanks for your answer but I also wonder if you think the sata drives work
better than the ide drives. Also, the sata cables come in sata and sata II.
The hd I'm looking at is a WD 800aajs 80 gb. It's a sata 3.0gb/hd oem. I
think my board is a 1/5 gb. Should I get the sata II cable or the other.

Thanks, MM

That mobo has a built in SATA controller. I suggest SATA if for no other
reason than the small round cable vs wide flat ribbon cable allows better
  air circulation in the case.

I currently have two SATA drives and an IDE installed in my computer. I
have had no trouble communicating between them. I do not forsee any problem
ghosting from one to the other. Especially if you have a later version of
  Ghost.

Any future computers I own will have a bare minimum installed inside the
case such as a smallish HD for the OS and a CD/DVD ROM drive. Everything
else possible will be external including extra harddrives and the DVD
Burner. That will make it easy to move stuff to a new computer. My mail
store, address book and My Documents are now on an external drive. Both of
my dual boot WinXP installations can see it all. My notebook will too when
  I get around to it.
