Most boom boxes that record have a single built in mic.  If it sports two 
mics, they both would most likely have received approximately the same 
signal from the stage area anyway (depending on the location of the box 
during the recording, of course).  If it was recorded differently than this, 
then you will have to be your own judge and decide if the two channels sound 
different enough to warrant treating the overall waveform as stereo.
