Did you format using NTFS or FAT32?
   
  Is you controler < ATA100
   
  You may wanna brush up on this artical:

  What system did you install this on?  How old is your system?  There may be 
an issue with the BIOS, it might be necessary to install a BIOS upgrade for 
your system in order for the system to work properly with your new hard drive.
