I'm looking through a forum where they're discussing this issue and it
appears that the software lacks support for one of the codecs used for some
of the media it's supposed to bring to your desktop.

At the end of the discussion, someone mentions a program called
"MediaPortal" that is supposedly all he needs. you might want to look into
that program instead of using TotalMedia. A google search should take you
right to it.
