-=PCTechTalk=- Re: any1 have HP Photosmart?

Cris......

We make our Christmas Cards on the computer and print it out on either
HP..or Avery card stock... So it works fine.

I bought the Hallmark Comedy card software.. and also the Greeting Card
Deluxe.. (I won't even bother to tell you I got them cheap after
rebates..haha!)
I like to be able to change their wording.. but also customize the cards. I
did one for a girlfriend whose child is her kitty. I put her name and the
kitty cat's name on the wreath on the front of the card... Did something
similar with most cards...like if there were coffee cups... I put each name
on a cup... and it looks good...ha ha!

And with my grandkids...I like to add their picture to the card..maybe on
the inside... it depends.... You KNOW kids love to see themselves... and I
usually do 'something' to the picture.. maybe crop it into the shape of a
heart...or some other silly thing... It just makes them know the card was
made special for them.

I like the quality of the print on the cards... we also put our names on the
back as having created the cards..with a logo I sort of created...
Made especially for YOU by Jerry & Rose - 2004

It is just fun... it is NOT cheaper or faster than buy a box of
cards...but... I get more comments..and folks seem to want to save them..
that is always nice.. especially the grandkids....

By the way... you can always buy an extended warranty from HP. At their
website.

My old HP.. an R40 which is still a great machine.. broke..(I thought..and I
was going to get a printer from HP.. they send you one.,.with most of the
parts... (not the top scanner cover... and something else..(so you have to
have a printer already to make it work. You take the parts off of
yours..and put it on the one they send...it really is easy..even I could do
it...haha!

Their prices are very reasonable.. like $30 a yr or something..maybe a bit
more... but you can check it out at the HP site.
Byt the way..my printer was not broken.. I had purchased FIVE..yes FIVE bad
cartridges...
Office Depot took them back..no questions asked..and I did not have a
receipt... and they gave me cash.... I would have been happy with new
cartridges...
HP sent a will call tag for UPS to pick up the printer replacement and never
charged me a dime....

I did buy a warranty.. and I will buy one when this one's warranty expires.

Have fun...
Rose

wow! sounds awesome! hope mine breaks so I can buy a new
one! but HP's seem to have good long lives!!
question -
how thick can paper be that it will feed? like card stock?
A year ago, Christmas, I bought Christmas cards that had a
picture on the outside, but were blank on the inside to put
your own words. Great idea! but... my hp won't feed the card
stock. SO ! my next printer HAS to be able to feed thicker
papers!!

I LOVE my 2410... I got mine at Costco last Thanksgiving...
so..it is over a
year old. I would highly recommend it. The new 2550 is the
same machine (I
understand) it is just a newer model.. so it is a little
more money.

It takes the memory stick from my Sony Camera. I have a
couple (3?)
different sizes..and it works just fine.

One of the best features of this machine..is a little flip
up display... it
is like a help screen.. you push the copy button..and it
tells you what to
do next... like the # of copies.. etc.. You push the fax
button and it tells
you to dial the number,,,etc. All very nice ... I do not
fax often..and the
help screen makes it easy.. I do not have to pull out a book
to look it
up...haha!

It works great as a fax machine also. So simple. Also, I
have an answering
machine..and the setup software walks you through setting it
up so your
answering machine and the printer/fax are on the same phone
line and there
are no conflicts...

The Scanner works great too.. so simple..

I LOVE the ability to make my own 'photocopies' of the
rebates and such.
You KNOW I do a bunch of those. Just Sunday, I purchased
$218 of stuff from
Fry's..including tax. My rebates are in the mail..and they
total a whopping
$177!

I got 100 DVD's. Each 25 DVD+ bundle was $6.25 with a $5
rebate..one per
customer. So, Jerry & I get rebates on two.. so they cost
us $1.25 for 25.
The other two..were $6.25 and no rebate... but..that still
is a good price
for 50 DVD's. So, it came to a combined total of 100 DVD's
for
$15...or....15 cents each.. a great deal!

We also bought the Sony Vegas Movie Studio..which is $100..
In store price
was $70... and it was FREE after rebates.
Also FREE after rebates were 2 sets of ($10 ea) USB cables -
2 Atomic Clocks
($6 ea) 2 Books (1 -$20 and 1 - $25) 2 CD Stomper Systems
($10 ea)
These are all things we USE... so.. they will really be
appreciated. (While
we already had CD Stompers..they come with 24 labels...and..
the updated
software...so... no complaints here haha!

Back to the Printer.... There are 3 cartridges for the
printer.... A color
one... a black one..and a photo one. When you want to print
a photo, you
put that cartridge in..(In place of the black one I
believe...it tells you
on the box...) The photo cartridge comes with a holder..the
fits over the
cartridge..so..when it is not in the machine... it will be
closed..so as not
to dry out.... I put the holder on the black one..while the
photo one is in
the machine..so that will not dry out either.

It does a great job on photos. When you put your memory
stick in the
printer..you can actually print..(without even using the
computer.. a
thumbnail sheet of the pics on the card. You can then..
fill in the circle
next the pics you want to print..and on the bottom... fill
in the circle to
designate the size you wanted them printed.
So, you could choose say 5 pics and print them 5x7.
Then..when that is
done... you can say print 4 at 4x6...what ever you want.

I choose to download the pics into my PC..and manipulate
them in PSP...and
crop out the stuff I do not like..and then print them...
but..either way
works... you can even print the same pics before they are
cropped and after.

Mine came with a USB cable..but not all do... and I think
the cartridges
were 'short' ones.... I buy mine at Costco... but I am
always checking
prices.

Jerry has a 1210 pr 1410.. he uses mostly for printing and
scanning. I like
the fact that both printers use the same cartridges. We got
that one for
about $50 on sale this last summer. It is good too. Not as
many
features..but.. we do not need two with all the features...

Hope this helps....

Jerry said to say hi.....

Hugs to you two!
