Hi Barb,
depending on how the SP2 was uninstalled the may be reminents of it causing
problems.
You need to flush the host file or at least check to make sure that MS is
not blocked.
If you were able to download something from the updates it is probably not
blocked.

I got a "cannot display" error message on that first site there
I was able to download the cab file
(am I sposed to DO anything with it)?
I didn't upgrade from a previous version of windows so I didn't do the host
changing thingy
I was too scared I think to "flush" geez
I did all of method 5 but still couldn't get the engine to load up at the
sites
and don't have a proxy server
thanks for your advice but I'm still right where I was before apparently
before I restored I had SP2 on and haven't put that back on yet
do you think there could be bits and pieces left on here that might be
"confusing" the system?
thanks again
Barb

Hi Barb,
see if you can get to this page;
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=3D836941
You receive an "Error 0x80072EE2" or "Error 0x80072EFD" error message when
you try to use Windows Update
