Going to SYSTEM RESTORE via the control panel is only the settings. Its = not the actual program. To start the SYSTEM RESTORE program, click on = START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > SYSTEM RESTORE. If you've moved and/or deleted the shortcuts, its located here by = default: C:\windows\System32\restore\rstrui.exe When you start the program, you should see two options. One to restore = to a previous point, and the other to manually create a restore point. I = do not believe there is anyway of telling the system how often to = auto-create a restore point, or how many restore points to store. A = restore point should be created every time your computer successfully = boots without errors. As for how many restore points to have, you should = be able to indirectly control that by telling the system how much space = to assign to SYSTEM RESTORE. That can be done in the settings, where you = looked before, via the control panel. Click the SETTINGS and you will = see DISK SPACE TO USE. The more space you give the more restore points = it should be able to hold. Every system is different, as your restore = points might encompass a lot more settings than mine. Hope that helps. ---Troth -----Original Message----- From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx = [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of ted Sent: Wednesday, November 30, 2005 4:57 AM To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: -=3DPCTechTalk=3D- Re: XP Home-System Restore-Defrag i'm using XP Home. System Restore... if System Restore is active, you have the=20 System Restore services running. Should it be active? Yes, if=20 you want the protection offered by the service... the safety of=20 being able to revert back to previous settings. However... if=20 you have a virus or other baddies on your system, sometimes=20 copies of the bad stuff will also be saved in the restore=20 points. Me, personally, I have it off. I never liked System Restore.=20 But, many people use it, and many people like it. | Sir Troth | ICQ #1717439 | AIM/AOL: SirTrothX | Yahoo: SirTroth | MSN: SirTroth@xxxxxxxxxxx | (do not email me here) | My Personal Email: SirTroth@xxxxxxxxx | -------------------------------------------------- -- <Please delete this line and everything below.> To unsub or change your email settings: http://www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ http://www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ -- <Please delete this line and everything below.> To unsub or change your email settings: http://www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ http://www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/
