-=PCTechTalk=- Re: XP HELP PLEASE

I too could not find any 'system' files when I first got XP. That's what
those .dbx files are... system files......

But, In reading the help files..I found some info......

Open ..."My Computer"

On the top.. press

    Tools
        Folder Options
            View
Under that you will see some boxes to check... and/or
Uncheck as to System Files

XP..by default hides system files and folders from Users. You can change
that here. System File folders have a different look to them. They are
like a faded yellow.... and some even have colors..and at the momeny..the
differences escape me... but, it will be obvious they 'look' different.
In the above screen where you are checking and unchecking boxes is a handy
option I use a lot. You can choose to have the Control Panel listed (on the
left) right in the My Computer Screen. No more having to go to the Start
Button to get there. I love the convience in XP..of when you highlight some
files... on the left options pop up.... to copy, move, delete, etc. Cuts
down on clicks and makes things much more convient in my humble opinon.

Keep Exploring XP.. There are a lot of neat things included.

Anyone who likes toys... for fun.... if you have a chance..to get Microsoft
Plus! Digital Media Edition. I got it for $5 on sale at CompUSA a couple of
months ago. It has some really fun stuff in it. It has dancers that you
can have dance on your screen when you play music. There are different
styles depending on the type of music. It is amazing how they move right
with whatever song you are playing. There is even a couple that dance that
you would choose for romantic slow songs.... it is amazing to watch. They
have some jitterbug type, Break Dancer, and the site has some you can
download too...including characters out of games. That in itself is worth
more than the $5 I paid. I think the full price is close to $20. I have
seen it at Costco for about $10.

I am also pretty impressed with Windows Media Player's burning cd's. It was
very simple and I liked being able to just select what I wanted to burn and
Windows automatically creating a temp file for the material.

There are lots of neat things included in XP..just take the time and explore
it. And... when all else fails.. read the Help files.... It actually is
pretty easy once you get started.

Now I am NOT saying you never read help files...I am going from MY
experience..where I did not always utilize them. Now I use them a lot..and
my frustration level has been reduced....lol!

Hugs,
Rose

Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- XP HELP PLEASE

I recently purchased a new pc and XP Home Edition was installed in it.
It isn't to hard to navigate but I don't like the search area.
I was using 98 se prior and when I did the search for my deleted
mail I would put in the search as dbx...thus I had 9 folders all
pretaining to my mail in OE...............there I was able to clean out
that wasted space.....I cannot get XP to give me those same
results..............there is either nothing resulting in my search or
a whole field of items that I'm not sure which I want to delete.
IS there and easier way of deleting the dbx files in XP?
