Gateway hid the Administrative tools on my other half's new PC.

But, I went into help.. and searched for help on the system tools for
Computer Management.

In the help file was a link to the Administrative tools..... So.. when we
got there.. we just created a shortcut..and voila!

I hate it when they try to protect us from our selves.....lol!

Their tech support has a hard time helping..(unless you give them control of
the pc to see what is going on) so..it is really to their advantage to give
us the tools that come with the system.

Hugs,
Rose

Tanzaa,

Are you sure that you didn't try to download an update from a virus email?
Or, you already installed a worm from a virus email, that changed your
normal windows registry files?

Do you have your windows xp or gateway cd's? Or are the files hidden on your
system? gateway uses a lot of proprietory stuff, and of course, windows does
also.

How were you trying to do the update?

Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Windows Update

| Hi:
|
| I'm battling Windows update once again. I was
| attempting to install a critical update from last
| month and when I get to the download box nothing
| happens...no download ever starts no bars of progress
| nothing...
|
| I went to the troubleshooting area and it gave me this
| fix:
|
| Please re-register the following files:
| regsvr32 msscript.ocx
| regsvr32 dispex.dll
| regsvr32 vbscript.dll
| regsvr32 scrrun.dll
|
| 1. Click "Start," and then click "Run."
| 2. Type regsvr32 msscript.ocx in the "Open" box and
| click "OK."
| 3. Repeat for dispex.dll,vbscript.dll, and
| scrrun.dll.
|
| Next, make sure file (open) type .JS is properly
| associated:
| 1. In Control Panel, click "Folder Options," and then
| click "File Types."
| 2. Locate the .JS extension and click "Advanced."
| 3. Make sure the "Application to perform action" field
| contains: C:\WINDOWS\System32\WScript.exe "%1" %*
| This is for a Windows XP computer. For Windows 2000
| substitute the C:\WINDOWS\ with C:\Winnt\. For
| Windows 98 and Windows Millenium Edition substitute
| this: C:\WINDOWS\System\ for C:\Windows\system32.
|
| Unfortunately when I did start/run and entered these
| file names it couldn't find these files...what do I
| do?
|
| Thanks for your help!
|
| I have a gateway 433 mhz celeron processor 256 mb ram
| 10 gig hd running Win 98SE.
