Thats another stupidity from Micro$oft.  Microsoft software and 
services that are impacted by the Micro$oft screensaver activating are 
too stupid to disable it or prompt the user to disable it.  And the 
screensaver is too Micro$tupid to recognize data flow, installation in 
progress and/or changing status information in dialog boxes as 
"activity".

I don't remember ever having the screensaver screw up a Micro$oft 
Update download and install before.
