I think that this will be the way most people will avoid the virus - most will come in from unrecognized people - so most people will just dump them - hopefully !! It seems when the viruses are coming in at such a fast rate, the anti-virus software will pick most up, but not all. And the anti-virus definitions need to be updated often!! I've gone to the symantec site to download their definitions that aren't critical enough for them to put out as a live update. It's worth the few extra minutes for me to be sure I have the most up to date protection. When you see one that is strange--DUMP it. I got one from Kimberly-Clarke?? I have never dealth with them..so I am supposing that it was fake and sent as a result of that addy being in someone elses mail list and THEY are infected.. no attachement came with it but still.... *~<*> Mary Lou<*>~* /\ - /\ >> ^ .^ << --0---0-- kg6ocz@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Why wait?...join Earthlink... ----- Original Message ----- From: "cris" <cris@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, January 28, 2004 11:54 AM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Warning If "susys" computer is infected, and she has your address in her address book, the virus could pick your name and address to use to send the virus out with. so - it is not good to get angry with people who appear to send viruses to you, because it is rarely that person who is infected. However, there are still a lot of people out there who don't realize this, and there are businesses who screen for viruses and automatically send messages out to the supposed sender. it's possible this is what happened. I received one from a business a few years back claiming I had sent someone in their office a virus - which, I had not. so - just delete and don't worry about it. It's also possible that it is a way to infect you. the TV is warning people to not open any mail that has been returned to sender - which could be what this was too. crisS ----- Original Message ----- From: alienkc@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, January 28, 2004 1:40 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Warning Ok Here is the cut and paste of the email. Here's a followup on the situation from Yahoo that might be of interest to y'all.........even though we're on Freelists. Dear Yahoo! Groups Members, Due to a recent outbreak of computer viruses being transmitted via email messages, Yahoo! Groups is experiencing delays in delivering group messages. To improve performance, and to help reduce the spread of viruses, Yahoo! Groups has had to temporarily reject some messages. Based on an advisory posted by a leading anti-virus company, Groups will temporarily reject messages with the following subject lines: a.. test b.. hi c.. hello d.. Mail Delivery System e.. Mail Transaction Failed f.. Server Report g.. Status h.. Error If you have attempted to post a message to Yahoo! Groups and have received a rejection notice with a link to this page, your computer may have been infected. If you are confident that your computer is not infected but your message was rejected, please try posting a new message with a subject line which is different than those listed above. We can assure you that this is only a temporary measure and hope to restore message delivery to normal as soon as possible.
