Bob
I have a gateway with a V92 modem. The first thing is you cannot make
outgoing calls. Tour incoming calls are limited to appox. 4 min.
I have a phone plugged into the back of the computer now, it sounds
better. But you do not have to. Just use a splitter on the phone line.
The biggest problem is finding a compatible ISP. The big boys
(MSN,AOL,Earthlink) do not support it. Some of the less expensive ones
(NetZero, Juno) do.

I'm seriously considering getting my folks a V.92 modem (their PC
came with a V.90).
For one of these to work optimally, i.e. be able to make/take voice
calls while online, is it true that I'd need to plug another
telephone into the modem, or could we just pick up on any of their
existing extensions?
