When you say "removable drive" do you mean a thumb drive/Flash Drive/Jump 
drive or do you mean an external CD/DVD drive.

Some thumb drives, especially those that use an SD or similar Memory Card 
can be write protected.  Change that to write enabled and see if that helps.

If a CD/DVD drive go to Properties> Recording tab and make sure recording is 
enabled.
