If you have a copy of XP that can be installed on another machine almost
any machine should be able to run it. I don't know if XP supports dual
or multiple core processors but I have seen some new computers with
single core processors. You could also simply put a newer bigger hard
drive in your laptop. A less efficient option would be to get either an
external hard drive or solid state drive, or if you don't need a LOT of
additional room a 32 or 64GB USB Flash Drive or memory card if you have
a memory card reader on the laptop. Be aware though that an 8 y/o
laptop will have at the best a standard card reader and may not support
the newer High Capacity (HC) memory cards.

If you lack the technical savvy yourself, ask any computer service and
repair store what sort of upgrading you can do with the laptop.
