Yes, and my folks didnâ??t even have the excuse of having fallowed all the land
planting only tobacco year after year after year. They were all artisans, a
fancy word for people who make their living as carpenters, cabinet makers,
joiners, and wheelwrights. Only one, my 6th great-grandfather was a planter. He
died in Spotsylvania County, VA in 1741 less than a year after having purchased
961 acres of farmland which he never got the chance to bleed out.

My ancestors came to what is now called Gloucester, County, Virginia about
1620. Thatâ??s a long time here, any way or place you look at it. After
initially establishing Virginia as the Land of Lovers, the folks moved on to
Spotsylvania and Mecklenburg, counties, VA. From there, of course, it was
just a hop, skip, jump and a "white lightnin'" still across the VA-NC state
line to the Caswell, Person, Granville, and Orange counties area of NC.
Eventually the family moved on to Edgefield County, SC, and from there to
Columbia, Coweta, Talbot counties, GA, finally establishing roots in
Montgomery, AL about 1910, where their eleventh great-grandson--that is to
say, Walt Boswell himself lives until this day--if one dast call this
"living". Seems my ancestors just didn't know when they had it good. :-)

I will say we love both N & S Carolina. We go to FlatRock for theater quite
often. We're building on Lake Keowee in "upstate SC". We're not far from
the NC border.

home. Love it down here. I even joined a Fire Department down here as a
