    Well, that certainly does lead to more of a puzzle.  Both sides of the 
VM wall should have plenty with that split.

    Is there any chance that the VM is somehow set differently than the 1GB 
you quoted below?  Are you running anything intensive on the main system 
while the VM is running?  How about within the VM?
