I use Netgear and have worked with Belkin. Both seem to be OK. My
personal laptop PC card is a Netgear WG511 which I bought in a set with
a WGR614 v4 wireless router. The kit was a WGB511. It has worked well
and the router has a NAT firewall and SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection).

The wireless router is connected to the DMZ part of my Smoothwall
firewall. That, plus the fact that it has the built-in NAT firewall
gives minimal protection to the rest of the network. I have also
changed the default SSID and password, as well as restricting MAC
address use and enabled encryption.

You should always run a software firewall on each system connected to
the internet so as to know what is going and coming. In addition, the
NAT firewall will provide a basic barrier to your network from the outside.

I would not speak for all routers but I don't know of any that don't
include at least the NAT feature. If the product doesn't list the type
of firewall, assume it doesn't have one and move on.
