Well... rebates and taxes are two different beasts.
A rebate is basically a discount given back to you after fulfilling some
requirement. Its a deceptive game, in my eyes... "you do this, and we'll give
you back this amount... but, if you forget or do it wrong, you lose the
discount".
So... you have any item that is $100 after rebate. So, the item might really be
$150, with a $50 rebate. You initially pay $150 for the item. Then, after
taking the item home, usually, it goes like this... you fill out a form, and
send it in to the company with a copy of the sales receipt and the original UPC
code on the box, and they will send you a check for that $50 discount. If you
do it wrong, or don't send it in by the time listed on the rebate rules, or
forget to add a component, like the UPC code, you lose and they win.
That's a rebate!
