Hello to each of you wonderful people that posted thoughts, questions &
ultimately the remedy of my problem.
First I must apologize for my lack of response after posting my situation.
In my profession, I sometimes get calls for assistance without much notice &
often I don't know how long I will be needed. That's what happened shortly
after posting my message & today is my first day back to my regular
routines. I just didn't want any of you to think I was deliberately
nonresponsive to all your assistance.
I must confess, I haven't had any interest or time to 'learn another
program' & it never occurred to me that might be the solution to a problem.
I installed OpenOffice & all my Word documents & Excel spreadsheets open
without a problem. Yes, I will have to slip in the time to learn exactly
what this program is capable of but a quick assessment leads me to think it
can do whatever Word & Excel does.
Thank you all for being who you are,
In great appreciation,
Jan

I use OpenOffice.org also. MS Office is installed on the work laptop
and I generally use it for work documents. OpenOffice.org is on my personal
computers. Sometimes I find some formating problems switching
between OO.o and MS Office, particulary with a few Excel, Access, and
PowerPoint files. Jan might want to
try OpenOffice.org, found at www.openoffice.org.

I was called to help a neighbor who's Office 2003
was not working after the last update.
it took me a while to convince her, but I put Open
Office on the computer
in 15 min she was able to do anything she was doing
with MS Office and no nag screens or errors.
I love OO
