When you say "nothing happens" do you mean that literally?
Absolutely no changes at all? Did the search button blink when you
clicked it. Does the mouse pointer change to indicate the system is
busy? Does it report "no results"? No error messages or other
dialog boxes? Is the search criteria such that the search goes so
fast you didn't see it? Is the size of the search area so small
that the search goes so fast you didn't see it?
What are you searching for? Is it a system file or a hidden file?
Where are you searching? My Computer or C: or D: or a specific
sub-directory?
Was something you installed designed to replace the basic search
engine? Maybe a new desktop search utility? What was done or being
done before you first noticed the problem? Had you been installing
programs? Deleting files? Changing configurations? Editing the
registry?
Have you checked the advanced options?
Don

Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- "Search" doesn't work in Win XP
Hello again,
When going to Start > Search > For Files or Folders, and then
entering something into the "name" box, and clicking "Search Now"
... nothing happens. I must have clicked something I should not have
clicked. Since this has happened, I've added much to the system (and
made helpful configurations and deleted unecessary files and
pre-installed programs) so going back to a previous period might set
me back some. Maybe there is a better way; anyone know how my search
applet can be fixed? --- Harold (from NYC, the Big Applet).
