Ed, I'm not sure about any DVI thingy. The monitor has always been plugged into the motherboard via what I think is a VGA cable (blue, 15 pin??). The only wire attached to the monitor were the power cord and the VGA cable. I got a new monitor today, but still interested in fixing the old one, if possible.
