Thanks Gman,

I will try doing other things in Safe mode and see what happens. I was 
really shocked when the PrtScn worked with both memory sticks back in.

I'll be spending lots of time backing up the many files I would be hate to 
lose. Should I forget about Acronis since I am in the depths of trouble 
here? If it is hardware would that help me out if I lose everything? I 
suppose if it is a corrupted file then I would just be lighting the fire 
that was extinguished, right?
