-=PCTechTalk=- Re: START UP MENU

Good morning, I have been reading the items on the start up menus and I
thought about my own and went to check it out. I found 29 items listed on the
startup menu. Some of them I do not know what they are. When I go to google,
do I need to type in the whole file name to get a description of what they are.
I did do that to a couple of strange ones like Load Power Profile (which is
listed 2x on the menu), Load=, Memory Meter, TVTMD, Power Strip, Web Assistant.
Can you tell me what these are and if they should stay or go.
Also, when I start up my computer, there is a little box that comes up that
says
Error! Could not download application! Please try again and then a box that
says ok. I always click on the OK and it goes away but I have no idea what
application it is talking about. How would I go about finding what this is.

And on the techie side, I am not to literate so this may sound like a dumb
question (but I have always been told there is not question that is dumb)
anyway, how do I find out if I have a Trojan worm on my computer. I do a scan
with Norton and it usually comes up clean but a couple of times, it has found
things which I quarantine, does that take care of them. Does Norton "catch"
Trojans???
I love this site and thank you all so much for your expertise.
I have a HP Pavilion running win98.
