First, check for any Notification Area icons that belong to the app/process 
in question.  If you find anything see if it offers a Settings or Options 
choice in its menu.  If it does, look to turn it off/disable it in there 
instead.  Otherwise, use MSConfig to essentially do that same thing, just 
less eloquently.
