-=PCTechTalk=- Re: SIZING DESKTOP ICONS-still having problems - TO DON

Thanks Don,
I will print this off and check out all that you have written, and try
and eliminate them one by one. Really appreciate your feedback. Will let
you know what I find out.
Gracias,
Gaynel

Does the system operate as it should in SAFE mode? The video will
default to 640X480 and so will appear large on the screen if you
usually use 800X600 or higher resolutions. Other drivers will
default to minimum standards or not install at all. So if you are
not familiar with SAFE mode, it could be operating as it should, but
you may not recognize it as such. If it works well in safe mode
either your monitor or your card may not support the higher
resolution OR you could have a bad driver.

Use the System Restore utility to restore your computer to a point
before the problem. (Start/All Programs/Accessories/ System Tools)

If the problem still exists, it is more likely a hardware problem.
It could also be a broken operating system, but I don't know what
could be broke to cause this problem.

If the problem has gone away, the cause is most likely the driver
for the adapter, or the driver for the monitor. With the system
still restored, open up the Device Manager and look at the driver
details for the video card and the monitor. Make a note of their
names, version numbers, dates etc.
Look for those drivers on the internet or elsewhere (such as
installation disks).

At some point, you need to make sure you have a good back up of all
important data on your computer. I think the likelihood of losing
data because of this problem is low, but accessibility may become
difficult or impossible. Also, while it may be unlikely, you could
, in theory, try enough things to fix a problem that you end up
confusing the computer and need to do a total re-install.

Hi Everyone -
I have done everything everyone has told me and it looks great until
I reboot.
The screen comes up as I left it, then the image 'blinks' (goes
black for a
second) and comes back HUGE!! Could it be a video card problem
or maybe
a monitor problem?
I'm open to any ideas.
Thanks
Gaynel

Hi,

Hoping someone can help. When I first boot my pc the desktop
icons look

fine but the screen flickers once and changes all the icons so they
are

huge!

I did a Right-click on the desktop, and went into Properties,
Settings

and changed it to 1280 x960 , click on Okay and exit; reboot my pc
and again

it comes in huge. I went back in to Properties, Settings and redid
the

top, as well as went to Advanced Settings and selected the Graphics
Driver

tab, and down to Graphics Properties snf puy in the 1280 x 960 for
screen

area, said OK and exited and closed my pc down and up again and it's
huge

icons again.

   What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Gaynel
