Never had such a time trying to catch the rigth screen
either I have slowed way down or this is getting faster...lol

LOL Pat!  I had this problem with a new laptop recently!  it took me 6 tries
to get into safe mode because the system was so darned fast!   try this...
boot, just after the info on your video card displays, hit the pause/break
key, then enter, then keep tapping the delete key or F2 or whatever to get
to the boot menu.
