Don,
Even if you have a dynamic IP setup (usually reserved for dial-up
connections), your IP will remain the same until you next dial-up to the
ISP, so this is not usually an issue. When you fire up the program, it has
a built in function that will look up your current external IP address
(outside your network) and automatically place it in your system's clipboard
for easy pasting. If you wish to provide others with more than one link to
files or folders, select a file or folder within the program and you'll see
the full path shown in an address bar that can be easily copied for pasting.
(I know some of that probably sounds confusing, but you'll see what I mean
when you set up the program)

The program does require port forwarding if you're using a router with a
built-in firewall, so the tricky part can be initially setting it up. I
followed the instructions they provided and was able to have it set up &
running within 5 minutes of installation. It's really easy if you already
know your way around your specific router's more advanced setup features.

I never considered using the server as a 24-7 repository (I only run it
when needed), although I sometimes turn it on when I go on a housecall to
provide myself access to more advanced utilities if needed. To do this, I
create a "Real" folder within the server software (virtual folder is another
option, but is best used for smaller files) and then populate it with
whatever utilities I think I may need. I then password protect the folder
so that only I can gain access to it. This, of course, prevents anyone else
from getting at my 'paid for' programs and using my licenses illegally.
Since any files I might need would have to be downloaded to my customer's
location, I limit the files I place on the server to smaller ones. Most
larger tools come with me on an external USB hard drive.

I also have a non-protected Upload folder so other folks (usually
customers of mine) can send items directly to me for inspection. My AV has
an exception rule for the actual location on my hard drive that is used by
this Upload folder. I do this so that any infected files sent to me aren't
deleted the moment they arrive. I can then open up MS VirtualPC, import the
questionable file(s) and test them thoroughly in there.

    Almost human? LOL

Peace,
G
