Very odd that none of the previous steps helped.  Other than the suggestion 
that you try another USB port (one that's not connected to the same place as 
the one it's in now), this is going to take some thought before I give you 
another suggestion.

I may come back suggesting that I connect remotely and take a look around. 
I may be able to spot something I'd never guess over email.
