Thanks are due again, particularly to Troth and Andy. The light has fallen upon this business, and I can now see where i have gone astray. Hitherto I have thought that a CD/RW could be used like a hard drive, inasmuch as copying a file to a file of similar name would replace what was already on the disc. That is not so, then, at least not with Nero. So to back up my data to CD, I have either to use CD/R, and throwaway when full, or erase CD/RW before saving data files which have been altered or added to. Furthermore, the 'read only' feature is easily dealt with if the disk(s) is/are actually needed to restore to HDD. What a great idea to save to a temporary folder on the Desktop first, which simplifies immensely the task of reversing the read only tag. Good one, and thanks again, guys and dolls. I do hope I have got that right!!!
