Larry,
Sorry to hear of your physical troubles and, if I were you, I'd consider
walking out on that cheap employer you've chosen. ;0}
The resume is all polished and well in circulation (has been for nearly
a year), but my primary, secondary and several fallback skills are no match
for the near total and complete lack of need in my areas of expertise (or
even well outside my areas). Here in Michigan, there are so many automotive
people ousted from their specialties that they've even taken all of the
burger flipping jobs away from the college kids just to try and keep food on
the table for their families (how's that for irony?). The bursted housing
bubble hasn't helped any, of course, and many are packing up and moving
south, west and east to find more opportunity for worthwhile prospects.
Unfortunately, I'm not talking so much about the people here, I'm talking
about some of the businesses. From my vantage point, it is painfully
obvious that Michigan is basically dying a slow death as it tries to
transition from major automaking state to, well, that's still up in the air
right now. In the meantime, I am able to collect, but the amount is based
on recent earnings which were badly affected by the gradual slowdown in
business at the place I worked. Although I'm a card-carrying city boy, I
may take up farming real soon. I'm just not sure how much an acre of
"whatever I can learn to grow in clay" is worth these days. We're keeping
it together asbestos we can.
Peace,
G
