Don,
I'm not going to be of much help on this as I only have 2GB of RAM
installed and zero personal experience working with a multi-boot that
includes both 32 & 64 bit OS's with more than 4GB installed.
If you want advice to save you troubleshooting steps, I don't have that
for you. However, you might want to try removing 2GB of RAM and see if the
problem you already know about still exists. If it goes away, you might
consider not bothering with all of the steps you've outlined here and
consider the case relatively solved.
