Not just protect it, but also to draw heat away from the hard drive's metal casing. Most external enclosures are made of aluminum and they act as a sort of heatsink to help keep the drive from building up too much heat inside. The heat is transferred to the enclosure's metal and released in to the air. Since this is one of the more important reasons for using an enclosure, I always get a kick out of reading negative reviews where the person who bought it is complaining about how the thing is a bit warm to the touch. Doh! ;) Peace, Gman http://www.bornagainamerican.org "The only dumb questions are the ones we fail to ask" ----- Original Message ----- From: "cristy" <poppy0206@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2009 8:09 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Program: BOUNCE BACK PRO > Thanks Gman, > > Then I suppose you need an enclosure to protect the hard drive? --------------------------------------------------------------- Please remember to trim your replies (including this sentence and everything below it) and adjust the subject line as necessary.
