Popups = Spyware Go to download.com and download spybot s&d, ad-aware SE and spyware blaster. Then go here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4372.html and download the winsockfix (might be needed later) Install them all, update the definitions on all three, run spyware blaster Then boot into safe mode (hold F8 during booting and choose safe mode) Then run spybot followed by ad-aware. While still in safe mode browse to C:\windows\prefetch and delete all files Then go Start>Run and type in %temp% delete all files in the window that pops up. Then empty your recycle bin and reboot. If she has a problem getting online the run the winsockfix downloaded earlier. That should get rid of 98% of the spyware on the machine If she still has problems post back here as the are other ways to remove stubborn spyware Regards Chris callto://spotta/ chris@xxxxxxxxxx http://www.spotta.com -----Original Message----- From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of CINDRA4@xxxxxxx Sent: 02 August 2005 07:24 To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Pop ups Hi everyone, I have a friend who got a new computer recently. She uses DSL and has windows XP home edition. She is having a lot of problems with popups. I seem to recall there is some way to stop them other than using a popup blocker. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated Cindy -- <Please delete this line and everything below.> To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ -- <Please delete this line and everything below.> To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/
